Michelle had more than a hunch that bodacious Brynn and Wes had seen each other naked.

Was Michelle supposed to care? She did. And how! Besides, she was headed to the restroom to use her cell phone to check on her mother before the microminied bombshell appeared. He knew that. Leaving Wes with Brynn had sent him the right message, she hoped. It wasn’t a scaredy cat move but a cool one, she decided.

Three other women milled about the opulent powder room. She slipped inside a stall for privacy, removed her cell phone from her clutch, then dialed. The phone rang four times before the answering machine clicked on. Darn it! Where could her mother be?

Michelle snapped the phone shut, then jammed it back inside her bag. She stepped out of her stall to an empty powder room. Soft classical music suffused the space. She moved across the lush carpeting to stand in front of an ornate mirror over the sinks to check her makeup.

Her index finger smoothed one neatly arched brow; then she checked her teeth for bits of spinach from her appetizer salad. Her lipstick needed a retouch, so she reached inside her bag for the tube of Spiced Raisin.

She looked up again to see Brynn’s reflection behind hers. She gasped, “I thought I was alone.”

The woman just stood there, staring, with a peculiar glimmer in her eyes. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to startle you.”
